The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) hosted the ASEANSAI Workshop on Strengthening Budget Credibility through External Audits on 16 to 19 September 2025 at BPK’s Education and Training Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. The workshop, part of the ASEANSAI Training Committee 2025 Work Plan, showed ASEANSAI’s strong commitment to building audit capacity across the region.

The program commenced with remarks from Olympia P. Balugay, Director IV of the Commission on Audit of the Philippines, followed by an opening speech from Yudi Ramdan Budiman, Director General of BPK’s Education and Training Center. On the first day, participants also joined a panel discussion, “Stakeholders’ Experience on Budget Credibility”, featuring perspectives from BPK, the Ministry of Finance, and the International Budget Partnership (IBP).
The workshop brought together auditors from Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand. Several organizations also joined the discussion, including the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the International Budget Partnership, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN-PAC), and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE).
In the following sessions, SAI Philippines, SAI Malaysia, and SAI Indonesia shared technical training on audit methodologies, planning, and reporting strategies. Participants also exchanged ideas on common regional challenges, such as political influence, global economic uncertainty, and limited institutional capacity.
The workshop underlined the importance of SAIs working together to share knowledge, develop common audit standards, and build stronger regional networks. With fiscal challenges that cross borders—like global crises and climate change—ASEANSAI provides an important platform to strengthen oversight and cooperation.
By the end of the forum, ASEANSAI members reaffirmed their commitment to promoting fiscal transparency, strengthening budget credibility, and ensuring public accountability. With the support of various stakeholders, the workshop highlighted how external audits play a crucial role in building transparent, credible, and accountable public financial governance.
