The establishment of ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI) must be followed by concrete activities to achieve the objectives of the establishment of ASEANSAI. The solid direction and policy in planning future ASEANSAI becomes the commitment in promoting good governance in ASEAN region. It is mentioned by the Chairman of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia who concurrently serves as the Chairman of ASEANSAI, Hadi Poernomo in his opening speech in the ASEANSAI Committee Meeting in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on February 9, 2012.
“This Kota Kinabalu meeting is a strategic milestone for ASEANSAI to define the direction and policy of the committees in planning its future continuity. I do hope that in this committee meeting, all committees can coordinate and synergize in formulating harmonious terms of reference and work plan in order to build capacity and promote cooperation among all Members of ASEANSAI.
“This meeting has a strategic meaning to the development of ASEAN SAI, to make sure the direction and policy of the committee in planning the ASEAN SAI in the future. Hence, I do hope that all the committee can coordinate dan synergize in formulating the term of reference (TOR) and the suitable and harmonic work plan for all the committee in developing the capacity and support among ASEAN SAI members” hopes Hadi Poernomo.
The two-day meeting held from 9-10 February was attended by Auditor General of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Ambrin Buang, Auditor General of Brunei Darussalam (Vice Chairman of ASEANSAI), Pengiran Hj. Abd Rahman Pengiran Hj. Mat Salleh and all delegates from the members of ASEANSAI. The objective of this committee meeting is to discuss and finalize the terms of reference and work plan of all ASEANSAI committee as a guidance to implement ASEANSAI activities.
The strategic plan of ASEANSAI for the period 2012-2013 will be based on each committee work plan. Its strategic plan for the period of 2013-2017 will be endorsed in Assembly meeting in 2013 in Brunei Darussalam. As it is widely known, ASEANSAI is established on November 16, 2011 in Bali, Indonesia. The goal of ASEANSAI is to develop and sthrengthen the capacity of audit institutions through the exchange of knowledge and information among Supreme Audit Institutions in the field of audit of public sector.
